About Greefa Netherlands

How did it start?

It all started with a sorting unit named The Tol, developed by Jacob andAnton de Greef in 1952 in the ‘Betuwe’, a well known Dutch cultivation region. The brothers wanted to develop something that would work faster and more efficient than manualsorting. Well, they succeeded in that! 'De Tol' was the first automatic sorting unit in the world. With 'De Tol' the family company Greefa was born. From 'De Tol' the presentday A3 is developed.

Where did it go from there?

Much has happened since the Tol: More graders and sorting systems have been developed, increasing in number and efficiency. Solid and well thought-out innovations for sorting have taken place for many decades. Some high points:

  • From the Tol the mechanical A3 grader is developed
  • Patented flaps, designed for fruit friendly treatment
  • 1980: First electronical sorting machine in the world
  • Late ’80: MSE machine
  • ’90: MSE-CXL machine: especially for larger fruit such as mangoes
  • Development of Gentle Bin Filler, a most fruit friendly dry presorting concept
  • 1996: Introduction of the iQS system, first in the world of his kind!
  • Introduction of the iFA system, first in the world
  • Introduction of the iFD system, first in the world
  • SmartSort and GeoSort: new generation machines with high capacity and fruit friendly treatment
